What to know before you register

What conference does the Junior Knights program participate in?We compete in the Dupage Youth Travel Basketball League, which offers competitive matchups for all division levels. Here is a link to the conference.

What does my son need to bring to the tryout?Players should bring a basketball, athletic shoes, and a water bottle. Aside from that, standard athletic gear is fine. The goal is for players to feel comfortable and ready to play!

Do I have to join Northridge High School to register for the Junior Knights?No, the program is independent from Northridge High School. However, one of our goals is to introduce families to the Northridge community, and we hope that through this experience, Northridge will be considered when selecting a high school.

How often are practices and games?Practices are held twice per week on average, and there will typically be 1 to 2 games per week, with most games occurring on weekends. The final schedule is set by the end of October.

Will a uniform be provided?Yes, all players will be provided with a uniform, shooting shirt, practice jersey and sweatshirt.

Do you travel for games?Yes, the Junior Knights program participates in both home and away games. Home games are held at the Northridge High School gym in Niles, while away games take place in surrounding West and Northwest Chicago suburban areas.

Are games played on Sunday?We respect Sunday mornings as important for family life and won't schedule games during that time. Further, we will do what we can to avoid Sunday games in general, however, due to gym availability and league scheduling, we might play a few Sunday afternoon or evening games.

Are fathers allowed to participate in practices?Yes! The Junior Knights is a father-led organization, and we encourage fathers to participate in practices. The head coach will provide guidance on how and where fathers can assist during practice.

What size basketball is used?For 3rd to 5th grade, the game ball will be 28.5 inches. For 6th to 8th grade, the game ball will be 29.5 inches (regulation size). We use Wilson Evo NXT basketballs as per new IHSA rules for games. Here is a link to the basketball for your knowledge.

What kind of competition should we expect?The Junior Knights is a highly competitive program designed for players seeking a higher level of competition. We focus heavily on player development, skills, and character-building, and players will compete in both home and away games against other strong teams in the Dupage Youth Travel Basketball League.

Does the program allow zone defense?For 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, only man-to-man defense is allowed for the entire game. Full-court man-to-man pressure is allowed during the last two minutes of the 1st and 2nd halves, provided the lead is not more than 10 points. For 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, any defense may be used, and full-court pressure is allowed the entire game if the lead is under 15 points.

Is the program open to students from other schools?Yes, the program is open to all students, regardless of which school they currently attend. However, we hope the Junior Knights experience will help families consider Northridge High School when choosing a high school for their son.

What is the program participation fee?The program costs $800 per player for students in 5th through 8th grade and $600 per player for 3rd and 4th grade. This fee covers uniforms, officials, equipment, league fees, and tournament entry fees. The program is a non-profit. If you have any questions about payment, please contact the program director.

Does it cost any money to tryout?No, there is no cost to participate in the tryouts for the Junior Knights basketball program. We welcome all eligible players to attend and showcase their skills.
